“WASABI” is a 39’ single compartment fiberglass sloop built by Sam Irvine, at Keehi Marine Center in 1982.Ross Handy took over the build project and finished the interior. Mr. Gib Black later modified the bow and stern extending the vessel by three feet. She is designed with a slightly raked bow, reversed transom withmolded stern scoop, fin keel and spade rudder. She has a 18 hp Yanmar raw water cooled marine diesel engine and a keel stepped double spreader aluminum spar. The vessel holds 25 gallons of diesel fuel and 50 gallons off fresh water. She is designed for offshore racing.

Recent updates include new standing rigging, new main halyard, and new propshaft with folding prop.

On deck forward is a stainless steel bow railing, Harken roller furling unit, single anchor bow roller, manual anchor windless and recessed anchor locker. The wedge shaped cabin trunk slopes up from the foredeck and there is a large watertight deck hatch. Stainless steel life line stanchions support two courses of wire lifelinesand there are boarding gates aft and on each side. The cabin has fixed tinted acrylic windows on each side and there is a second water tight hatch located over the salon. There are port lights high on the hull topsides and cockpit well sides that provide light and ventilation for the quarter berths. The cockpit has a pedestal mountedwheel helm with engine throttle controls to starboard and gauges mounted to the forward side of the cockpit well.

The vessel’s cabin is arranged with V-berth cabin forward with non-enclosed manual commode located aft to port. The main salon has port and starboard straight settees, followed by an L-shaped galley to port and forward looking navigation station to starboard. There are quarter berths aft of the galley and navigation station on each side. The engine enclosure is located amidships between the salon settees and also doubles as a salon table.
